Field Notes

Description:

This was an interesting find in my backyard in February. I spotted this pale bird a few times before I was able to get a picture of it. Even though I called it leucistic it is suspected to be Oca4/Slc45a2, which stands for Oculocutaneous Albinism Type 4, a rare color mutation, especially for the brown thrasher. Typically these are a reddish-brown bird with dark streaks on their buffy underparts. Here is a spotting of a typical brown thrasher I found also in my backyard: https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1550022109

Habitat:

Spotted in deciduous woods behind my house.

Thanks Ava. I sent the pics to a bird color mutation group with experts in the field. They were impressed and said they suspected it to be Oca4/Slc45a2.
