Field Notes

Description:

10" tall, wingspan about 22" Red cap, barred back and wings, grayish white belly with pinkish feathers on lower belly (sometimes you can actually see them!). Flight pattern basically a straight line.

Habitat:

Hilly, wooded with oak, pine, cedar, maple, and walnut trees. Regular visitor to our sunflower seed bird feeders. Takes seeds to aluminum rain gutter and bangs the crap out of them, sounding similar to a machine gun, or a 6-year old with a new snare drum. Beautiful birds!
