Field Notes

Description:

Soft white broadly bell-shaped fungi with pale orange-yellow fertile surfaces. The fertile surfaces were like folds thrown into crinkles nearer the centres. Emerging fungi were like narrow bells but mature ones were fused forming large soft white masses.
Minute droplets of moisture were seen on the slightly furry white upper surfaces.

Habitat:

Spotted in a deep hollow of a decaying damp eucalyptus tree stump

Notes:

According to Fuhrer, these are sometimes broadly attached to the decaying logs and can be seen on both native and introduced species.
I have used Fuhrer's book (2005) for identifying this fungus.
Spore print is said to be yellow brown.
Almost missed this one. The white bells were just discernible in the deep hollow of the tree.

Family: Tapinellaceae
Synonyms :Pseudomerulius curtisii
: Paxillus curtisii
