Field Notes

Description:

Two pairs of unidentified gilled mushrooms.

Habitat:

These mushrooms were growing at the base of composting leaves and organic matter heaped around a banana tree in a large semi-urban yard and garden next to a disturbed patch of remnant forest. This location is in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

The 2nd photo was taken on the following day.

Quite attractive. I wouldn't consider tasting these though. Closest I can find is http://www.amanitaceae.org/?Amanita+similis
