Field Notes

Description:

cap: 9cm diameter. mostly plane, partially convex. margin smooth but wavy and lobed. colour medium brown. some radial fibres with dark ends give some texture. flesh light tan.

gills: attached. slightly darker than flesh. 7mm deep. jagged edge. a bit brittle. close-crowded. spore print: white

stem: 5cm long, 1.5 cm wide. stable width. light tan (like gills) no ring, no volva. interior flesh like cap. not hollow quite tough to snap. snapped very raggedly.

Habitat:

in leaf litter on edge of bamboo stand near tended grass.

Notes:

very hard to identify. I chased this all through David Arora's Tricholomataceae section and kept coming back to Melanoleuca.
