Description:
Prickly pear cactus is known as papipi or panini in Hawaiian.
Habitat:
Seen at an elevation of about 3000 feet on the rolling plains of an extinct volcano, Kohala.
Notes:
This cactus was introduced to Hawaii potentially as a food source for cattle, but it is now considered a naturalized species.
