Description:

Rock sparrow is a colonial and cavity nesting passerine, distributed from Southern Europe to Central Asia, in open habitats and under dry and sunny climatic conditions.

Habitat:

In Italy this species is a widespread resident across central southern Apennines, including Sicily and Sardinia, while in the northern part of Peninsula the species nests at northern limits of its European range in isolated patches in north west Alps.
Petronia Project (University of Calabria, South Italy) is a long-term study that since 1991 has been investigating the influence of yearly weather variations (i.e. temperature and rainfall) on breeding parameters.
