Hi Elizabeth, this looks more like Harmonia axyridis, Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle. Hippodamia variegata has a more oval shape and is not known to occur in North America (found in Europe and Asia). Please look at the link I provided in the ID suggestion and compare the images. See what you think!
