Field Notes

Description:

This Cranesbill is an annual herbaceous plant with rather rounded to kidney-shaped leaves, less clefted than other member of the same genus. It often forms a massif-like structure, some 40 to 50 cm tall. It produces upright stems, with small pink five-petaled flowers - each petal is clefted in half, half-way down, giving the impression the flower counts 10 petals.

Habitat:

Very common wildflower in our zone, the lake Geneva lowland, just in between Jura and Alps mountains ranges. I find it often in many different habitats - forest edges and clearings; edges of walking paths, meadows and grasslands, between agriculture fields... Here, found inside beautiful and protected 'Bois du Faisan' forest (somewhat mixed, but predominantly deciduous forest, a lot of oak)
