Description:

A small baby turtle found on the side of a heavily travelled road. Has a long tail about 2 inches and is all black in color. Not sure if a snapper or another type

Small forest side creek

Thanks @ForestDragon I did some research into snappers and found two types it could be. It could either be a Common Snapping Turtle or an Alligator Snapping Turtle. I believe it is the latter, because of the ridges on the shell and the shape of the scutes

Neat find! I would say there is a good chance that this is a snapping turtle. It's not uncommon to find baby turtles this time of year. In order to have the best chance of survival, this little turtle should be returned wild (if it hasn't been already). I would imagine there is a water source near where this little one was found. It is important that we leave our wild creatures in their native environments as they are important to the habitat in which they live.
