Field Notes

Description:

Mainly dark olive-brown domed carapace, cream-whitish below. Long darkly colored neck and head of the same color, one whitish stripe on head.

Habitat:

Semi aquatic, often seen on edges of swamps, ponds and waterways.

Notes:

Purchased in front of one of the pagodas of Mrauk-U complex (at the time I bought it, I was convinced it was to become a dinner to the buyer; actually, capturing, buying and then releasing animals is a common practice in Myanmar; all for good luck...) and released in a larger pond (Photo No 1). The species in vulnerable, on the red list of IUCN.

Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Six, very pretty photos....a very pretty Turtle....
Thank you for rescuing it, particularly as it is a vulnerable species. I suspect it might be caught again but your action is appreciated!
