Larch Bolete?
Suillus grevillei?
53.2866, -1.98293
Field Notes
Description:
Growing near some coniferous type trees (maybe larch I don't know) and a silver birch maybe some other kinds of trees too. Smell kind of similar to chanterelle but more earthy, perhaps not distinctive. There is some definite and strong blue staining as I cut the stipe (2nd and 5th photos). Similar species S. tridentinus (also edible). S. flavidus, is limited to Scottish highlands and elsewhere is rare, grows under pine, is edible but poor. A few of my guides say to peel off the slimey top skin of S. grevillei and that the rest of the mushroom is good in soups and stews
