Field Notes

Description:

Large, dark dragonfly that has black and white markings. Thorax is grey and marbled.

Habitat:

On the dark surface of a wall in a neglected part of a government office.

Notes:

Reportedly (and I saw that too) it likes to sit on walls, mosaic-floors, and boulders so that it is camouflaged better. The place I spotte din had weeds and a rainwater drain with all sorts of plants growing in a neglected tangle. It kept flying away to come back and sit on the black marks on the wall but NEVER (In half an hour or more) did it sit on the part where the yellow paint was still evident on the wall. Through the camera lens it was difficult to spot it even though I KNEW it was there. My first shot was way off the mark. It really can be as invisible as a ghost. Aptly named.
