Swamp Chestnut Oak
Quercus michauxii
32.75, -92.9156
Field Notes
Description:
A large white oak, commonly found near streams or other water sources, has leaves resembling the Chinkapin Oak, except it has rounded lobes, not points. Its acorns are large oblong nuts 1.5 to 2.5 inches in length.
Habitat:
Near water or other moist places. It likes rich soil.
Notes:
I would not recommend doing any digging around them because they have shallow root systems. Also commonly called Cow Oak.
