Very cool find, Berrian! This interesting looking insect is actually a type of Leaf-footed Bug. It most resembles one from Genus Piezogaster. I think there is a good chance that this is Piezogaster calcarator. Here is a link that may help. http://bugguide.net/node/view/38191
