Iridescent Tussock Moth
4.39935, 117.889
Field Notes
Description:
A small Tussock Moth resting on the washroom floor. Strangely I have forgotten to measure it, I guess it should be less than 30mm from forehead to wingtips. It looks like an ordinary drab moth until you photograph it with strong flash. Under bright lights, its colorful wing scales will reflect various colors of the rainbow, making it appear iridescent.
Habitat:
Found in the hostel washroom of Bombalai Jungle Lodge, Tawau Hills Park, Sabah.
Notes:
>>>Map accuracy: 10m diameter. I woke up early for nocturnal insects left behind from last night. This is a Tussock moth of the Lymantriinae subfamily (Erebidae). Possibly Olene inclusa? ID help will be greatly appreciated.
