Field Notes

Description:

Leaves: Alternate, simple, with double-toothed margins.
Catkins: narrow, relatively long, reddish-brown catkins.

Habitat:

City Park

Notes:

I'm not certain what sub group of birch. The bark was too gnarled and mossy to see clearly, but it didn't appear to be peeling like a Paper Birch. The catkins were longer than those of the Water Birch.
It could be a paper birch, water birch, or a hybrid birch.
