Field Notes

Description:

Perching over a pond as dusk fell. It originally looked black but the flash revealed its' true colour.

Habitat:

Rainforest pond

Notes:

There seemed to be one of these 'roosting' on every pond in the vicinity. I'm not very good with Odonata and the closest resemblance I've been able to find is a female Black-winged Dragonlet (Erythrodiplax funerea), but I'm troubled/confused by the extent of dark shading on the wings.

You're welcome, I love those insects :) They're really from another era, considering their behavior. They've facinated me ever since I was a child.
Check out more pictures of this species on inaturalist and you'll see that one of the genders have the same pattern as your spotting, don't know if it's male of female.
