Field Notes

Habitat:

Found on the Trillium Gap hiking trail in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, near the Tennessee/North Carolina border. Medium elevation. Early August. Lush mountain forest, plenty of rain that week.

The more information collected, the better when it comes to mushrooms. In future get photos or take notes of the spore surface, identify the substrate when possible, if terrestrial make notes of nearby trees, photos of stems, and where/if the pores or gills meet the stem. Even then you will have some unidentified, but at least you will have a chance.
It's difficult to remember, but I think I recall them looking very soft. It had also been raining a lot that week, so everything had a dewy, shimmering surface.
Do you recall if they had a distinct pore surface, were they gelatinous or brittle?
