Field Notes

Description:

A small, slender insect that looks similar to a walkingstick but has front legs similar to a praying mantis. This individual was about 2.5 cm long. It's in the assassin bug family.

Habitat:

Flowerbed in my yard.

Notes:

I knelt to look at a ground plant for moth larvae and found this tiny insect by chance. It was rather slow-moving, and stayed on my hand and arm for quite some time before I put him back where I found him. This was a life insect for me !

Thank you Adarsha ! Leuba, my old camera died right as mothing season was cranking up so I know about the pocket camera at night (I'm lucky I had a pocket camera for a back-up). It's not easy.
I understand Diane. I have a little pocket camera - can't always expect good shots with mine and it's next to impossible at night !! you're pictures are really good anyway.
