Field Notes

Description:

Possibly a Nutria/ Coypu

Habitat:

Near the bank of the river

Notes:

Its was swimming at the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz. I believe that it is in fact an invasive species. Considering the mass amounts of damage they have done in the US. I believe that it is important to manage the invasion of this species.

Friendly to visit, it seems that the animal is becoming habituated which could become a problem with tourists

Great first spotting, Daniel. Excellent notes as well. They are a problem, but we are the root cause of that problem! Some interesting audio... https://www.dw.com/en/living-planet-when-nutria-takeover/av-49551684 Myocastor coypus is it's scientific name.
