De color negra, caparazón notablemente aplanado en la región basal y provisto de una amplia apertura bucal y peristoma, desnuda. Las púas son macizas y puntiagudas, y su longitud no suele superar el diámetro del caparazón, que es rosado. Pies ambulacrales desprovistos de ventosas
