Description:

ornamental plant with a red flower. Has a history of medicinal use by Native Americans. It's antiseptic properties make it useful in treating skin infections and minor wounds. Tea made from the plant was also used to treat mouth and throat infections. Menarda is the natural source of thymol, the primary active ingredient in mouth wash.

Habitat:

Mostly Eastern North America
