There are always a lot of discussion about pets and captive animals. There might be critical issues, but, please, do not forget the fact, that for many people, mainly from the cities, zoos and parks are to only possible way to get in contact with nature and to make a point for getting them sensitive to nature and environment protection. All these people are also part of our community and maybe some of them are, after looking at real wildlife pictures on our site, ready to go out for the wild world around them.
As Nature Photographer I never click captive animals, whether pet or not. They are not wildlife, they are not free, they have no territory, no issues with other males or females, no free choice of breeding. I even never catch animals for photography, I try to get good pics of them in their natural habitat, without disturbing that or them. I am a witness, not the boss, I take photos for myself and to show to interested friends.
jellis , i do agree that you try to present animals in as natural a state as possible. Too much road kill on Ygnacio valley road. Skunks,Raccoons, oppossums, deer, coyotes!! Sad to see that! Never have the heart to photograph them.
True, Just maybe I try to follow the purpose of this site. Wildlife is wild. Everything in their natural state. That is why I don't list pets, domestic animals (except domestic ducks in ponds), zoo or farm animals, dead animals or plants that are found in gardens or home. Especially I would not stun or drug animals.
It is a bit confusing. As per as my understanding. Pets and Domestic are both captive. The Domestic part of captive animals is okay to be categorized as mammals?
I could argue about a horse not being a pet. Seen ponies and small horses kept inside houses. Well trained. Some cats and dogs are sometimes treated more as domestic then horses.

Believe the horses if not wild are considered Pets
