Description:

Thousands of migrating Coots are feeding on the wild rice in a number of shallow lakes and ponds connected by the Otter Tail River through Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge before continuing on their journey. Only those portions viewable from county roads (as these photos) are available because of the government shutdown.

Habitat:

Found in wild rice filled shallow slow moving river.

Notes:

Spotted at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, Otter Tail River at bridge near Chippewa Picnic Area.
