Please consider adding this to the Spiders of the British Isles mission http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/29779008
http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/46496125 would you please consider adding this spotting to The U.K Arthropod Survey as it would be a very interesting contribution. Thanks!
Im going to have to try get a photo of the pedipalps methinks. Ralphie is causing me some trouble.
Yes you're right Mark, the abdomen size can be a gender thing. I managed to find Ralphie again tonight! Added two more photos although I'm not sure they help at all. He always seems to be in awkward places.
And oh yes it looks a little bit like our huntsmans but at 2cm definitely snigger. :-)
Abdomen size can be a gender thing with spiders. Go staccyh - get him !!
Haha :) me too! I use (and like) the metric system. Hm ok, I'll change it to just say Tegenaria. I think its looks pretty similar to that genus...but I'll heed caution :) I dont think its T domestica because the abdomen on the one I saw is a lot thinner. I'll try to find Ralphie again and take some close ups of him (hopefully without screaming!).
I am already happy if you are not using inches... Stacey, are you sure about Atrica? Me not really, I was just be the devil's advocat to check all the other one as well. Atrica looks indeed not bad, but I would not dare to confirm that 100% or bet half of my ranch on it. I think we really need a really good close-up of Ralphie. I mean really close! Without screaming! ;-)...
If you look at the markings on the abdomen in these photos (number 3 down), it looks similar to my photo: http://eol.org/pages/1200082/overview. I've tried looking for Ralphie today, but he's nowhere to be seen!! Mark, snigger? Because the size is too small? or because I expressed it in cm and not mm?
Maybe Stacey should call Ralphie for a closer examination...
That looks good too... I guess we can't be sure from photos.
Can we be sure it s not another Tegenaria sp.? Can somebody tell me the differences between the species, like Tegenaria atrica? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tegenaria_atrica http://wiki.britishspiders.org.uk/index.php5?title=Tegenaria_spp.
