Field Notes

Description:

Family: Geometridae, Subfamily: Ennominae (Typical Geometers) Common moth. Wingspan: 43-60 mm. Unevenly scalloped wings are pale orange, variably speckled and blotched brown. Resembles autumn leaf especially since I found it hanging from the porch light. Also called Notched Wing Moth. Host trees include alder, basswood, maple, oak, and poplar.

Habitat:

Woodlands, yards wherever host trees are found. Came to porch light.

Notes:

Readily accepted my finger and was walking on my fingers, hand and then jacket. Took off in flight.
