Description:

Lethe callipteris is a butterfly in the Nymphalidae family, sub-family Satyrinae. It is endemic to Japan

Habitat:

Seen along road verges in alpine forest at 750 meters, in a Ski Resort (in summer).

Congratulations Pam, your Lethe butterfly is our Spotting of the Day: "Endemic to Japan and making its first appearance on Project Noah, this nymphalid butterfly (Lethe callipteris callipteris) is our Spotting of the Day! Lethe is a butterfly genus from the subfamily Satyrinae in the family Nymphalidae, and comprises treebrowns, woodbrowns, foresters and their relatives. These butterflies are found in temperate-tropical southern and eastern Asia. Lethe callipteris also has two other recognized subspecies, endemic to the island of Sakhalin and the Kurile Islands".
