Field Notes

Description:

Butterfly with light yellow, black-veined wings.

Habitat:

Coastal temperate rainforest, a few miles from the ocean at 500 ft.

Notes:

This individual didn't move for the couple of hours I observed it; it wasn't raining at the time. Perhaps it had just emerged from its cocoon. It was resting on moss. Flowers near this butterfly which are open now include violets, salmonberry, currant, and cherry just starting.
