Field Notes

Description:

The Noisy Miner chicks are now two weeks old. With the exception of small tail and flight feathers, they're already starting to resemble the adult birds. Here's the original spotting of the chicks at the age of one week (a week ago) - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/423796004 I am astounded that they've grown so quickly, and that they can already fly, albeit clumsily.

Notes:

The chicks are now out of the nest and are perching on the tree branches. I thought one of the chicks had fallen from the nesting tree at some stage because I saw it alone in an adjoining tree, probably placed there by some good Samaritan, but as it turns out, the chick had flown there of its own accord. The following day I found it back in a tree with the other two chicks. I am truly amazed that these birds are capable of flight at such a young age. Only short flutters between the trees, but they can fly better than I can ;-)

Trouble indeed! The parents have been working hard. The chicks are bottomless pits, and they're now airborne... at two weeks of age. Amazing.
