Field Notes

Description:

This is the largest, shyest and most ungainly of the 3 or 4 other gecko species that cohabit my house. It is found in Indonesia, New Guinea and some other Pacific islands.

Habitat:

Lives in houses and other buildings within a large yard and garden, near a patch of disturbed remnant lowland forest, in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

Individuals of this species will fall to the floor with quite a loud sound and that is what happened with this individual. Seizing the opportunity, I grabbed it. This gecko was not harmed in the making of this spotting, OK!

Here too, Mark :-) Thanks Maria. I let it go where I found it, inside. I really don't mind them at all :-)
Nice spotting - did you release it outdoors or leave it inside to become a household resident? :)
Great. Wouldn't keep still for the camera huh !? :-) The geckos in India make a real 'splat' sound when they go down.
