Field Notes

Description:

A large vulture that is all black except for the yellowish, bare head and bill. The legs are flesh colored and the feet white.

Habitat:

These are common in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador. This one was sitting on a stump not 25 feet from the house.

Notes:

The vultures, like many non-hunted birds don't readily show alarm at the approach of people. It was quite easy to get some pictures from the door of the house.
