Field Notes

Description:

A small moth with a wingspan of about 15 mm. Wings were dark some iridescence. Basal parts of the wings were a pale yellow and there appeared to be a yellow patch on each fore wing nearer the submarginal areas. Eyes were yellow and appeared large. The significant feature was the long wiry antennae- about 3 times the length of the body. Legs appeared to have spike(s).

Habitat:

Spotted feeding on nectar on a Snowy Daisy-bush (Olearia lirata).

Notes:

A beautiful moth. It's a pity I could not get clearer shots !! Females are said to have shorter antennae.
Thanks to martinl for confirming ID. It is probably N.chrysolamprella.

Family: Adelidae
Subfamily: Adelinae

Species ID Suggestions

Thanks Martin for confirming this. All I could see was a dark moth with iridescent shoulders and wings with a few pale patches. Eyes looked enormous !
I think your genus suggestion is good. There seem to be a lot of species worldwide. I saw one yesterday and then just noticed yours. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/43819187 Here's one from a bowerbird user. Linda seems to have some knowledge of these. http://www.flickr.com/photos/linda-rogan/6640366385/in/photolist-b7MBzB-b7MBuB-bwqWXc-bwqWFz-bwqWRB-bwqWBV-bwqWNM-bwuncD/lightbox/
