Ring-billed Gull
Larus delawarensis
43.08, -79.06
Field Notes
Description:
Adult and juvenile gulls nesting on the ground along the path at the floor of the falls.
The head, neck and underparts are white; the relatively short bill is yellow with a dark ring; the back and wings are silver gray; and the legs are yellow.
Habitat:
Their breeding habitat is near lakes, rivers or the coast in Canada and the northern United States. These are the gulls you're most likely to see far away from coastal areas—in fact, most Ring-billed Gulls nest in the interior of the continent, near freshwater. They nest colonially on the ground, often on islands. This bird tends to be faithful to its nesting site, if not its mate, from year to year.
Notes:
Spotted near the walking paths to the Cave of the Winds at Niagara Falls State Park (NY)
