Description:
Besides being an excellent shade tree, American Sycamore trees offer lots of visual interest. The bark is distinctly scaly, peeling easily. It also produces this really interesting round fruit that matures in November.
Habitat:
In its native range, it is often found in riparian and wetland areas. The range extends from Iowa to Ontario and Maine in the north, Nebraska in the west, and south to Texas and Florida.
Notes:
Spotted at a wooded detention/retention pond in an office building complex in Kennesaw, GA.
