Description:

This large cluster of Coprinus variegatus, found growing on decaying hard wood should not be eaten within 24 hours of the consumption of alcohol, because it activates an enzyme that causes temporary illness. Cap egg -shaped when young, becoming expanded; grayish-brown with whitish to oche loose scales, 1 to 3 inches broad. Gills free, close together (crowded); white when young; soon becoming purplish-brown then black and liquefying. Stem white or whitish.
