Field Notes

Description:

I spotted this hawk in the evening with somewhat poor lighting. It wasn't until I had retouched the photo that I was able to confirm it was a Broad-winged as opposed to a Red-shouldered hawk.

Habitat:

During the summer some subspecies are distributed over eastern North America, as far west as British Columbia and Texas; they then migrate south to winter in the neotropics from Mexico down to southern Brazil.

Notes:

Spotted on power lines near a residential neighborhood and multi-lane highway overpass in Kennesaw, GA
