Field Notes

Description:

The caterpillar of the red-lined geometer is green, bean-shaped, slightly dorso-ventrally flattened and about 45 mm long. It has a thin white and red line along each side, an arrow-shaped head and a small fork-shaped tail (pic 5).
The true legs (pic 3) are hidden under a head capsule which the caterpillar lifts when looping.

Habitat:

Found under a eucalyptus tree

Notes:

The caterpillar feeds on leaves of Eucalytpus trees. They pupate for two weeks before emerging as adults. There are quite a few of these moths flying around a this time. Here is a spotting of the adults
