Field Notes

Description:

A very furry and well padded moth about 30mm across. Melded soft pinks and browns with light patterns of dots and a few curved lines. Four spots near the inner costa are distinctive. So fluffy it looks fat when resting on the ground.

Habitat:

Attracted to strong night lighting at the local school.

Notes:

This one is male and can vary considerably. The females are much larger - maybe 50mm across. One or two generations per year depending on latitude. Found from southern Queensland to Tasmania. Feeds on grasses as larvae but in Tasmania they only eat Oak and Beech !!?
