Description:

Juvenile Manta ray aggregations (groups of 5-25) swimming up and down the coast! Average size 3'.

Habitat:

Worldwide in the temperate zone.

Notes:

Observed juvenile manta rays on the gulf beaches of Tampa Bay! We are a Manta ray nursery!! Historically, the Manta ray has been a resident of this area.

HISTORICAL NOTE: Theodore Roosevelt came to Boca Ciega Bay in the 1908 to hunt "Devil Fish" a common name for the Manta ray at the time. The purpose of his hunt was to collect specimens for the American Museum of Natural History.
