Field Notes

Description:

With a wingspan that can be as little as 15 mm, the Small Blue the smallest European Lycaenidae. The dorsal view for both male and female is a dull brown with some bluish overtones. The undersides are a silvery grey with a black dot pattern similar to that of Cupido osiris; in this latter species the males are bright blue.

Habitat:

Dry river bed surrounded by rocky meadows, alt. 1700 m.

Notes:

Seen drinking mineral from my sweaty hiking equipment in the second shot.
