Field Notes

Description:

A juvenile cottonmouth found next to two others. The crazy thing is, this was in the same place as my previous cottonmouth spotting, and the previous emaciated one was still there, except with this one and another!

Habitat:

At Snake Road in southern Illinois.

On a slight decline that led down from the road to water.

Notes:

The fourth photo is of the snake's yellow tail. This is only in the juveniles of this species; it disappears as the snake matures.
