Field Notes

Description:

The flowers usually have 8 ray flowers and 30 or more disk flowers. The ends of the ray flowers on most Coreopsis species are toothed; that feature is missing in Coreopsis major. The leaves only appear to be whorled; they are actually opposing, with each leaf having three narrow, lanceolate lobes. This gives the appearance of 6 whorled leaves.
