Field Notes

Description:

Very wide stem at the base. I stripped this one down to the stem then peeled off the stringy outer layer. The hollow stem was crunchy and fairly easy to eat compared to the thistles I've eaten before. Taste wasn't too awful and a little bit sweet! It chewed down to a moderately astringent bolus (fancy words!) which was fairly difficult to swallow. Certainly not a culinary delight.
