Field Notes

Description:

Possibly a Parasa philepida or Parasa sundalepida, both of the Parasa lepida species group. The larvae are considered pests and have been recorded from coffee, coconut, oil palm, cocoa, tea and mango.

Parasa Moore, [1860] is from family Limacodidae. Members of this family are called 'Slug Moths' because the caterpillars have reduced true legs, and have no prolegs. They progress using the complete underside of the body, as a slug does. They are also named 'Cup Moths' from the shape of their pupal cocoon.

Habitat:

Backyard.
