Description:

In warm weather, students can often be seen studying in the shade of or climbing the strong, low-hanging branches of this tree, which stands outside the OWHL library.

Habitat:

Thrives in a humid atmosphere with well-drained soil. Can survive through severe winters, making it a great tree for New England.

Notes:

Its wood can be used to create a smoke flavoring in foods. Furthermore, its nuts are an important source of food for animals such as birds, but can be harmful if consumed in large quantities by humans.
