Field Notes

Description:

10 mm sized paper wasps totally busy building their colony on a mango leaf and I'm yet to identify them. These are small reddish wasps with a yellow band and two heart shaped markings on the abdomen. Much smaller and darker in color than my previous spotting http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/38825002.

Habitat:

Mostly found building nests on leaves of trees.

Notes:

Don't seem to be aggressive. Usually found nesting on the shadier side of the trees like mango and fish tail palm.

Thanks, Suzanne :)) I did feel uneasy but they didn't seem to be bothered! They were still there when I went to check on them today. They seem to pick evergreen trees in the area. The other nest which was much bigger, was on the fish tail palm tree leaf.
Very nice spotting, surekha, brave of you to get so close for so long. Seems like a leaf wouldn't be a very stable place to build a nest ... but I'm sure they know what they're doing!
