Field Notes

Description:

Order: Lamiales > Family: Verbenaceae. Native mostly to the tropics, Florida is the only place in the US this place calls home. It can be found in South Florida and up the coasts to Tampa and Cape Carnival and is one of the two native Lantanas to Florida. Unlike the heavily restricted and small Lantana depressa, this species grows much taller, making a lovely bush, has smaller flowers and will not readily hydridize with the bane of Florida that is Lantana camera.
