Field Notes

Description:

Noctuidae; Plusiinae; Chrysodeixis sp. I cannot find an exact match for this moth. So, I can't identify the species at present, but I am sure that the genus is right. The specimen in my photos matches a number of Chrysodeixis spp. (displayed in Philippine Lepidoptera), in terms of shape and colouring, with very small differences in some details. They have, as far as I can see, 8 Chrysodeixis moths. The first 2 are named C. acuta, but the colours and markings on my moth do not match. The remaining 6 Chrysodeixis specimens in their collection are all closer in appearance to my moth, but even if there were an exact match, it would not help because all 6 of them are labelled Chrysodeixis sp. I have a feeling that this one will remain an "sp." for some time.

Habitat:

This Looper Moth was spotted in a thicket at the edge of a rice field. At that time of year (the rainy season), it was damp and dark partly because of the undergrowth, but also because there are some overhanging mango trees, giving extra shade.
