Field Notes

Description:

Not an ant at all but a female Wasp. She parasites other wasp and bee's nests in the ground. Males have wings, females do not.

Habitat:

Dry, sandy, gravelly deserts.

Notes:

The sting of the female is considered one of the most painful of all. So painful it is also called the Cow Killer.
